Faculty Panel to Preview Presidential Debate

Oct. 16 forum to focus on domestic and foreign policy

Domestic and foreign policy issues facing the country will be front and center during an “Engage the Debate” event on Tuesday evening, Oct. 16, on the Medford/Somerville campus. It will feature a faculty panel, moderated by Provost David Harris, discussing issues likely to be raised during the debate between President Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney that will be televised later that night. Following the discussion, the audience is invited to watch the debate together.

Panelists will include James Glaser, a professor of political science; Edith Balbach, director of the community health program and senior lecturer in American studies; Michael Klein, the William L. Clayton Professor of International Economic Affairs at the Fletcher School; Richard Eichenberg, an associate professor of political science; and Sarah Sobieraj, an associate professor of sociology.

“We intend this panel to be a way for the Tufts community to hear unbiased information that will help them understand and assess what they hear in the presidential debate,” says Harris.

The panel discussion will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and the presidential debate airs from 9 to 10:30 p.m., both in ASEAN Auditorium in the Cabot Intercultural Center.
