Tufts Alumna Heads to White House
The new special assistant to President Barack Obama and communications director to First Lady Michelle Obama is Tufts graduate Maria Cristina Gonzalez Noguera, J97, the White House announced on June 24.
Michelle Obama said in a press release that Noguera “will bring a fresh perspective and a wealth of experience that will make her an incredible asset to our team. My time at the White House has been focused on ensuring all our children and families thrive, and as an experienced communications professional who shares my commitment to this mission, I know MC [Noguera] will be an outstanding partner.”
Noguera majored in international relations at Tufts and had been global vice president for corporate communications at the Estee Lauder Companies Inc., where she advised company leaders on strategic communications. Previously she was a managing director for the Washington, D.C., strategic communications firm Chlopak, Leonard, Schechter & Associates.
A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Noguera is married and has a one-year-old son.
