Tufts Dining Receives Two National Awards

Wellness and nutrition program and online catering menu capture industry ‘Oscars’

Tufts has received two awards from the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS), recognizing Dining Services for excellence in nutrition programming and its catering operation’s new online menu.

The Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards celebrate excellence in college and university dining services. Tufts Catering took home a gold award in the catering/online menu category for its website and mobile-friendly catering menu, which launched last fall. Now Tufts Catering has a chance at winning the grand prize in the online menu category, which will be presented to one gold award winner at the 2016 NACUFS national conference in Anaheim, California, in July.

Tufts Dining was lauded for the most innovative wellness and nutrition program in the Nutrition Awards competition, which recognizes original wellness or nutrition programming. The award went to “Eat Your Way to Better Health,” a program developed for National Nutrition Month in March by Julie Lampie, the nutrition marketing specialist for Tufts Dining, and Hayley Ruff, a former dietetic intern at Dewick-MacPhie Dining Center. The campaign offered students nutrition facts to help them make healthier food choices.

“There is nothing more rewarding than recognition from one’s peers,” says Patti Klos, Tufts Dining’s director of dining and business services. “Winning a NACUFS Loyal E. Horton Dining Award or the Nutrition Award is like winning an Academy Award. It’s both validation and recognition.”
