MEDFORD/SOMERVILLE, Mass. – Chief international correspondent for CNN and global affairs anchor of ABC News Christiane Amanpour will discuss current world issues and changes in how people receive their news at the eighth annual Edward R. Murrow Forum on Issues in Journalism at Tufts University on Friday, April 26, at 12 p.m. The forum, which is free and open to the public, will take place in ASEAN Auditorium in the Cabot Intercultural Center on Tufts University's Medford/Somerville campus. As global affairs anchor for ABC News, Amanpour provides international analysis of important issues of the day and anchors primetime documentaries on international subjects. She is also host of "Amanpour," a daily interview program on CNN International that is broadcast in Europe in primetime and in more than 200 countries. Previously, she anchored ABC's Sunday morning political affairs program, "This Week."
Amanpour’s career in journalism spans three decades. She has reported from the world's major hotspots, including Afghanistan, the Balkans, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Pakistan, Rwanda, Somalia, the Palestinian territories, , and the U.S. during Hurricane Katrina. She has interviewed many of the top world leaders over the past two decades, including securing the only interview with Hosni Mubarak and an exclusive with Muammar Ghadafi during the Arab Spring.
The Murrow Forum will begin with an interview of Amanpour by Jonathan M. Tisch, co-chair of the board of Loews Corporation and Chairman of Loews Hotels. A graduate of Tufts and vice chair of the Tufts Board of Trustees, Tisch hosts the Emmy award winning television program "Beyond the Boardroom with Jonathan Tisch." The forum will end with an opportunity for the audience to ask Amanpour about her career.
Amanpour has been the recipient of the inaugural Television Academy Award, ten News and Documentary Emmys, four George Foster Peabody Awards, two George Polk Awards, three duPont-Columbia Awards, the Courage in Journalism Award, an Edward R. Murrow Award and nine honorary degrees. In 2011, Amanpour received the Giants in Broadcasting award from the Library of American Broadcasting and the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism from Arizona State University. She has also been the recipient of numerous international awards.
The forum is sponsored by Tufts University's Communications and Media Studies Program at the School of Arts and Sciences, the Edward R. Murrow Center of Public Diplomacy at The Fletcher School, and the Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service.
