MEDFORD/SOMERVILLE, Mass. – On Sept. 25, Tufts University will host a panel discussion on "compassionate leadership" and how it relates to current world events. Panelists will include Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan, Rabbi Irwin Kula, a provocative religious leader and well-respected rabbi, and the Sakyong, Jamgön Miphon Rinpoche, world spiritual leader of Shambhala Buddhism.

"As we look ahead to this year's presidential election, the topic of leadership, and its relation to moral and spiritual values, is more timely than ever," says Tufts University President Lawrence S. Bacow. "Tufts is especially pleased to welcome these three remarkable leaders to campus since as an institution we are deeply committed to active citizenship."

Jerry Murdock, co-founder of Insight Venture Partners a member of the Board of Trustees of both The Santa Fe Institute and The Aspen Institute, will serve as moderator for the conversation. Probing their own traditions and experiences, the presenters will engage the audience in a lively panel discussion and examine how their different paths can contribute to a shared vision of interdependence and global connection.

The compassionate leadership discussion will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 25 in Cohen Auditorium, 15 South Campus Road, on the Medford/Somerville campus of Tufts University. Admission is free, but tickets are required. General admissions tickets may be reserved through the Tufts Office of Community Relations by calling 617-627-3780. Attendees are encouraged to submit questions for the panelists in advance at http://www.vivapeace.org. The panelists will reflect on the questions in developing their remarks, but the program will not include a question and answer session.
