Four members of the faculty recognized for excellent in teaching
BOSTON (May 5, 2014) — Tufts University School of Dental Medicine today announced the winners of its annual teaching awards. Faculty members Quinn Chan, Timothy Hempton, Michael Kahn, and Rebecca Lufler were recognized for their accomplishments in teaching and their service to the school.
“Tufts University School of Dental Medicine has a proud reputation for excellence in teaching and research,” said Huw F. Thomas, B.D.S., M.S., Ph.D., dean of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. “This year’s award winners have demonstrated the highest level of achievement in teaching, and we are honored to have them on our faculty training the next generation of dental professionals.”
Quinn Chan, D.M.D., M.S., clinical instructor of prosthodontics and operative dentistry, was recognized by the graduating class in the Doctor of Dental Medicine program with the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching. Dr. Quinn practices prosthodontics in Quincy, Massachusetts and Nashua, New Hampshire in addition to his teaching at Tufts.
Timothy J. Hempton, D.D.S., adjunct associate professor of periodontology, was selected by the graduating class in the Doctor of Dental Medicine program to receive the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Preclinical Teaching. Dr. Hempton practices periodontics and implantology in Dedham. He is currently a volunteer member of the faculty at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
Michael Kahn, D.D.S., professor and chair of oral and maxillofacial pathology, oral medicine, and craniofacial pain, was named the winner of the Provost’s Award for Outstanding Teaching and Service. Selected by the Dean of the School of Dental Medicine, the award recognizes a faculty member for outstanding teaching and service to the school. Dr. Kahn was recently named Clinician of the Year by the Massachusetts Dental Society.
Rebecca S. Lufler, Ph.D., lecturer in integrative physiology and pathobiology at Tufts University School of Medicine, was selected by Dean Huw Thomas to receive the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Basic Science Teaching. Dr. Lufler teaches anatomy to dental, medical and physician assistant students at Tufts.
