Event on March 27 will commemorate Fletcher professor of international relations
Remembering William Martel
The life of William Martel, an associate professor of international security studies at the Fletcher School who died on Jan. 12, will be celebrated by the Fletcher and Tufts community on Friday, March 27.
Martel, a leading scholar in the foreign policy community, is remembered for his dedication to his students. He died after a yearlong fight with leukemia. (Read a story about Martel’s life and career.)
The celebration will take place at 2 p.m. at ASEAN Auditorium in the Cabot Intercultural Center. Among those speaking will be James Stavridis, F83, F84, dean of the Fletcher School; professors Richard Shultz, Toni Chayes and Bob Pfaltzgraff; Laurie Hurley, director of admissions; former students Lulu Cheng, F13, Nihal Chauhan, F14, and Jane Kaminski, F14; and doctoral students Torrey Taussig and Nick Kenney. Martel’s widow, Dianne Martel, will also speak. A reception in the Hall of Flags will follow.
