School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University's 2017 Art Sale directly supports artistic community, funds creative educational opportunities at one of nation's premier art schools
Masterpieces from emerging, established artists available to own at annual art sale, Nov. 16-19
MEDFORD/SOMERVILLE, Mass. (Nov. 3, 2017) -- The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University will host its annual art sale from Nov. 16-19, featuring thousands of eclectic pieces created by talented established and emerging artists, in the largest contemporary art sale in New England.
The sale, on SMFA at Tufts' campus at 230 The Fenway in Boston, offers nearly 3,000 works by almost 700 SMFA at Tufts students, alumni, faculty and other affiliated artists. The selection of artworks includes a mix of paintings, drawings, photographs, sculpture, prints, video, ceramics and jewelry.
Each visit to the sale over the course of the short week is different because the selection is constantly being refreshed as pieces are sold. The sale also includes a pop-up jewelry shop in the Barbara and Steven Grossman Gallery on SMFA at Tufts’ Fenway campus, and an assortment of unframed works in bins, both very popular with visitors.
The art sale – now in its 35th year – kicks off on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 10 a.m., followed by a public reception from 5-8 p.m. that evening. The sale ends at 5 p.m. the following Sunday, Nov. 19. Admission to the opening reception and the sale are free.
The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University splits the proceeds from each sale 50/50 with the artist, so each sale both supports artists and provides opportunities, financial aid and other creative resources for art students at the school. Last year, more than 4,000 patrons visited the sale, which is SMFA at Tufts' biggest fundraiser.
The 2017 art sale is sponsored by Stanhope Framers, U.S. Art, Around the Corner, Port Lighting and Horizon Beverages.
