Tufts University to host former Vice President Al Gore

MEDFORD/SOMERVILLE, Mass. (Jan. 24, 2018) – The Tisch College of Civic Life at Tufts University will host former Vice President Al Gore for an event focused on climate change, politics, and public service on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 6:15 p.m. in Cohen Auditorium at the Aidekman Arts Center on Tufts' Medford/Somerville campus.

Kelly Sims Gallagher, professor of energy and environmental policy at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and director of the Center for International Environment & Resource Policy, both at Tufts, will moderate the discussion with Gore.

This event is free and open to the Tufts community, but a ticket is required. Information about ticketing is available here.

Gore is the founder and chairman of The Climate Reality Project, a nonprofit dedicated to solving the climate crisis. He is the author of the best-sellers "Earth in the Balance," "An Inconvenient Truth," "The Assault on Reason," "Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis," "The Future: Six Drivers of Global Change," and most recently, The New York Times best-seller "An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power."

He is the subject of an Oscar-winning documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," and a new film which premiered in July 2017, "An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power." In 2007, Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change received the Nobel Peace Prize for "informing the world of the dangers posed by climate change." Previously, Gore served as a U.S. representative and later a U.S. senator from Tennessee before serving as the 45th vice president of the United States from 1993-2001.

This event is the first in a series convened this semester as part of the Tisch College Distinguished Speaker Series, which welcomes to the Tufts campus leaders in public life to inform and engage with students on important issues. Past speakers include Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Tim Kaine, Gov. Charlie Baker, NBC News broadcaster Lester Holt, and actress and activist Anna Deavere Smith.

This event is cosponsored by The Fletcher School's Center for International Environment & Resource Policy, the Tufts School of Arts & Sciences' Department of Political Science and the Environmental Studies Program.
