New Faculty at Arts and Sciences

Twenty-seven faculty members join the School of Arts and Sciences and the SMFA this fall

This fall, the School of Arts and Sciences welcomed twenty-seven new faculty members in fourteen A&S departments and three departments in the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts.

Among them are Felipe Dias, assistant professor in the Department of Sociology, who studies racial disparities in employment, the consequences of racial segregation, and the processes of racial boundary formation; Shan Jiang, assistant professor in the Department of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning, who investigates the interactions of human activities and the built environment in global urbanization processes to design responsive policies for smart, sustainable, resilient, and healthy cities; and James Murphy, an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics, whose research interests include machine learning and data analysis.

At the SMFA, new faculty include Tanya Crane, professor of the practice in the Department of 3D and Performance, who specializes in non-ferrous metals and jewelry, and works in a range of three-dimensional media; and Rachelle Mozman Solano, professor of the practice in the Department of Media Arts, who makes photographs and moving images that simultaneously explore the relationship between documentary and narrative fiction and the ways that culture shapes individuals and environment conditions behavior.
