New SMFA Faculty Show Work at Exhibition

Seven professors of the practice are the focus of a show at SMFA at Tufts

This year saw the hiring of a group of new professors of the practice at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts, and what better way to introduce them to the community than an exhibit of their work? That was the thinking at SMFA at Tufts, and a month-long show of work by seven of the new faculty members is on view at the Anderson Auditorium there through September 30.

The new faculty’s art and teaching further the idea of racial and social justice, says Abigail Satinsky, Tufts University Art Galleries curator and head of public engagement, who organized the exhibition along with Cecilia Karoly-Lister, MFA22. They visited the artists’ studios via Zoom in the summer, and the artists contributed pieces that they felt exemplified their work. The results are front and center at the New SMFA at Tufts Faculty Exhibition

After a difficult pandemic year, “there’s really a wonderful atmosphere of having students back in the building,” said Satinsky. “They get to walk in and see their new faculty’s art—I think it’s helped bring up everybody’s mood and be excited to learn and make together again.”
