In August 2020, students lined up in the Gantcher Center in order to get the COVID-19 tests required for their return to campus for the fall 2020 semester. The following month, the university began a study to look at whether the nasal swab sampling Tufts was using in its surveillance testing could be analyzed in cost-efficient batches, to put it within financial reach of K-12 schools that want to conduct their own surveillance testing. That research led in February 2021 to Tufts' launch of a pooled-testing program with the Medford and Somerville school systems. Photo: Alonso Nichols
