A background in organized sports inspired my initial interest in the human body and a healthcare career. In my previous career as an Army officer in the Medical Service Corps, I worked with health care professionals and physicians who introduced me to medicine and inspired my interest in becoming a physician. Developing a deeper understanding of a physician’s role on the health care team solidified my interest in becoming a physician.
I finished undergrad in 2017 and had been out of a classroom setting for over four years before starting the MBS program. The MBS program provided the supportive environment, tools, and skills I needed to reestablish my academic footing. I was surrounded by like-minded peers and dedicated faculty mentors who assisted me through the school year and later in my medical school application process. The MBS program has prepared me for success as a medical student and future physician.
My classmates—the collaborative academic environment of the program promoted group studying and friendships. The classmates I’ve met in the program helped me refine my study habits, showed me new ways of thinking, helped me stay on schedule and relieved stress over the past two challenging years. I could not have been as successful without them.
Enter the program with a flexible schedule and understand your timeline. While plans will change, having realistic expectations and goals will keep you focused. Reach out to your classmates and the Tufts faculty to understand what resources you have at your disposal. Hirsh Health Sciences Library was my second home, and I recommend taking advantage of all their resources.
Finally, go out and explore Boston and the rest of Massachusetts. With proper time management, you will have more than enough time to have fun and enjoy Boston.
Receiving a medical school acceptance is one of the proudest accomplishments of my life. It’s taken me almost 10 years to get to this point, and the journey has not been easy. The MBS program helped me unlock my true potential and reach my goal of becoming a physician.
