Meet Cora Evans, V23

School: Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine

Degree: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Home: Anywhere I can wake up and be surrounded by nature

What’s been the focus of your studies?

My main interest is in wildlife and conservation. It started from a love of animals as a child—even then, I always said I wanted to be a veterinarian. Then, in my junior year of undergrad, I studied abroad in a wildlife conservation and political ecology program in Tanzania. I spent four months in the national parks there, and that’s when I really knew what I wanted the focus of my career to be.

What’s your superpower?

I’m a compassionate person and a listener. I think to work in this field, you have to have those qualities.

Complete the following sentence: “Because of Tufts, I…”

Made friends that I know I will have forever, got opportunities to work in amazing places, like Belize and Kenya, and learned so much about a career that I love.

What’s the best piece of advice you have for someone who wants to follow the same path you’re on?

Keep going, even when it gets challenging. Veterinary medicine can be emotionally and financially draining, but if you know what your goals are and stick to them as closely as possible, you’ll make it through.
