Eight Lights on the Hill

Tufts community members gather for the annual menorah lighting to begin Chanukah festivities

Members of Chabad at Tufts joined with university community members on December 7, the first night of Chanukah, at the Mayer Campus Center for the annual Jumbo Menorah Lighting celebration.

Continuing a longstanding university tradition, Tufts President Sunil Kumar lit the menorah. Students enjoyed music from the Tufts Pep Band as well as latkes and doughnuts. Those offering welcome remarks included Rabbi Tzvi Backman and Mia Rabinovich, president of Chabad at Tufts.

Chabad at Tufts is a university student group whose mission is to expand the range of Jewish experiences and resources available for Tufts students. That work takes the form of a range of programs and activities, including celebrations like the menorah lighting as well as educational programs and service opportunities.

The menorah lighting at the campus center was the first in a series of eight nights of special candle lightings, dinners, and other programs sponsored by Tufts Hillel and Chabad at Tufts to celebrate the holiday.
