The Friedman School Announces the Establishment of a New Professorship in Data Science
The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy has announced the establishment of a new endowed professorship in data science made possible by the generosity of Dr. Barry Rosenbaum, M.D., A60, advisor emeritus, and Renée Underwood. Dr. Elena N. Naumova has been named the inaugural Barry J. Rosenbaum Professor of Data Science.

Dr. Elena Naumova has been named the inaugural holder of a new professorship established by a gift from Dr. Barry Rosenbaum, M.D., A60 and Renée Underwood. Tufts University
Dr. Naumova is widely recognized for her contributions to the fields of nutrition, epidemiology, and data analysis, as well as for the expertise and leadership she brings to Tufts. She is a Professor at the Friedman School and leads our new Data Analytics and AI in Nutrition specialization. Her primary expertise is in the development of analytical tools for spatio-temporal and longitudinal data analysis applied to disease surveillance, exposure assessment, and studies of growth; creation and application of statistical tools to evaluate the influence of an extreme and/or intermediate event on spatial and temporal patterns. Dr Naumova also holds appointments within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Tufts University School of Engineering; Department of Public Health & Family Medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine; Department of Mathematics, Tufts University School of Arts and Sciences; and the Department of Gastrointestinal Sciences, Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. She was recently named a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Dr. Naumova serves on numerous research review panels and editorial boards of scientific journals with the goal to shape and implement institutional policies on data sharing and management, data quality assurance, and information security. She has been a champion for students throughout her career providing state-of-the-art learning, professional development, and innovative research opportunities. She has advised and mentored more than 100 Ph.D., M.S., and M.P.H. students at Tufts. A valued colleague and friend, we are grateful to Dr. Naumova for all her extraordinary contributions.
