Men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, and men’s tennis move on in NCAA action, while baseball and softball begin this weekend, plus many other athletics updates

Tufts student-athletes are having successful spring seasons, with a number of teams and individuals active in the postseason.
Baseball
For the first time in Tufts baseball program history, the Jumbos will host an NCAA tournament regional round May 15-17 at Sol Gittleman Park. The Jumbos (30-9), hold the top seed entering the regional, playing against Mitchell College (29-12) in the opening game May 15 at 11 a.m.
The regional series is a double-elimination tournament, and the winner will advance to the NCAA super regionals on May 22–23.
The Jumbos recently won their eighth New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) title in program history with a 16-8 win over the Amherst Mammoths.
Softball
For the seventh time since the 2015 season, the Jumbos softball team will host an NCAA tournament regional on May 14-16. The Jumbos (30-10), the top seed for the regional, will welcome Middlebury College (33-8), Muhlenberg College (32-11) and Alfred University (29-13) to Spicer Field for a double-elimination tournament. The winner will go on to the NCAA super regionals May 21–22. Tufts will play Alfred at 11 a.m. on May 14.
Men’s Lacrosse
The No. 1 Tufts men’s lacrosse squad defeated Middlebury College 24-10 in the 2026 NCAA Division III tournament’s third round on May 10. The victory pushed the Jumbos into the NCAA quarterfinals for the seventh straight season, as Tufts (18-1) now takes on No. 6 York College May 16 at 4:30 p.m. on Bello Field. Earlier, the Jumbos won their tournament opener with a 17-9 victory over visiting Rhodes College.
The Jumbos captured their 14th NESCAC title on May 3, knocking off top-seed Bowdoin College 18-14 in Brunswick.
Women’s Lacrosse
The No. 4 Tufts women’s lacrosse team scored the first 12 goals on May 10, five coming from senior Allie Zorn, as the Jumbos cruised past No. 23 Haverford College 17-7 in the 2026 NCAA Division III tournament second round on Bello Field. The victory punches the Jumbos’ ticket to the NCAA third round, where Tufts will play host to No. 13 Gettysburg College May 16.
Women’s Rowing
The women’s rowing team won the Points Trophy for the fourth straight year at the National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC) on May 10 at Lake Quinsigamond. Tufts won grand finals in the second, third, and fourth varsity events, and were third in the first varsity grand final.
Winning the Points Trophy for the best overall performance at the NIRC, Tufts scored 188 points in the four events. Bates College was second at 180 and Williams College placed third (174).
The NESCAC championship was also determined May 10, using the NCAA point-scoring system for the first and second varsity results at NIRC. Tufts and Bates College tied with a combined total of 50 points, but the Bobcats were declared conference champions due to their better finish in the first varsity race. Tufts took the runner-up spot.
The Jumbos earned an at-large bid to the NCAA championship, set for May 29–30 at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville, Georgia, and will look to capture their third straight national title.
Men’s Rowing
The men’s rowing team won grand finals in the second and third varsity eights, was third in the fourth varsity race, and placed fourth in the first varsity grand final on May 10 at the National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC) at Lake Quinsigamond.
The Jumbos earned third place in a very tight Points Trophy competition, which is awarded for the best overall success at the NIRC. Wesleyan University and Trinity College tied for first in points at 192, with Tufts a close third at 191 points. The Jumbos also earned a varsity four victory May 10, which does not count in the points standings.
In an all-NESCAC 1V8 grand final on May 10, the Jumbos were fourth, behind 2026 conference champion Wesleyan University, runner-up Trinity College, and third-place Williams College.
The team has secured an at-large berth to the 123rd Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) national championship will be held May 29–31 at Lake Natoma in Gold River, California.
Men’s Tennis
The No. 3 Tufts men’s tennis team earned its fifth straight trip to the Elite Eight with a 4-0 victory over the Trinity (Texas) Tigers in the third round of the NCAA Division III men’s tennis tournament on May 10 in Medford.
The Jumbos’ next match will take place at Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on May 19 against No. 8 Swarthmore.
The NCAA announced recently the individuals and doubles pairs competing in the 2026 NCAA Division III men’s tennis championships May 23–26 in Chattanooga. Seniors Alex Ganchev and Javier Gonzalez will compete in the single’s draw while Ganchev will team up with classmate Sacha Maes in the doubles’ draw.
Coed Sailing
The Tufts coed sailing team received an at-large selection into the 2026 Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) open fleet race national championship this week. The ICSA open championship will be hosted by the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg May 19–22.
A total of 36 teams will compete at the national championship regatta, first in a pair of 18-team semifinal events. The top nine teams from each semifinal will advance to a two-day final.
Tufts was one of 24 teams to receive an at-large bid and will be one of 14 schools representing the strong New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association at the national championship. The Jumbos had an eighth-place finish at the 2026 New England Fleet Race Championship on April 18–19 in Rhode Island.
Women’s Tennis
The No. 20 Tufts women’s tennis team took on the No. 12 Middlebury Panthers on May 9 in the NCAA Division III women’s tennis tournament. The Jumbos fought hard, but were unable to pull through, ending their 2026 season with a 4-2 loss to the Panthers. The Jumbos finish the season with a 13-7 overall record, highlighted by marquee wins over Williams, Bowdoin, and Christopher Newport.
Tufts senior Lucy Mitchell was picked as an alternate to the field of 32 individuals for singles’ action in the NCAA Division III women’s tennis tournament. The individual championships will be May 22–25, at the Champions Tennis Club, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, hosted by the University of the South.
Women’s Track and Field
The women’s outdoor track and field team won its first NESCAC championship since 2013 on April 26, with the Jumbos winning four events and pulling away from the pack to capture the program’s fifth conference title overall.
Simi Lawal, Arielle Chechile, and Emma Gall each won individual conference titles, and the 4x100-meter relay was also victorious, capping the most individual and relay wins by the Jumbos at a NESCAC championship meet since 2015.
Following a third-place finish at the New England Division III outdoor championships at Springfield College on May 1–2, and other respective meets on May 8-9, the Jumbos will compete at the MIT Last Chance Meet on May 14. There, the squad will have one final opportunity to earn or improve on NCAA qualifying marks before the NCAA Championship selections are announced on May 15. The NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championships will be held May 21–23 at Veteran’s Memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Men’s Track and Field
The Jumbos scored well in five events at the NEICAAA meet May 9, accumulating 34 points to finish sixth among Division I, II, and III teams. Tufts was the top D3 team in the standings.
The Jumbos will have their final opportunity to improve or record NCAA qualifying marks at the MIT Last Chance Meet on May 14. The NCAA championships will be held May 21–23 in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
